Tips
If you have a brass valve that seemed intact, but water leaked through the solid looking casted. The wrong valve may have been used in that application and zinc leacing has occured.
The zinc leaching (dezincification) will generally show as colour change of the brass, however sometimes you may have a valve that externally looks OK, but leaks water through the body. It probably means a basic brass valve has been used instead of a dezincification resistant option.
